In 2008, Shenzhen Hi-tech Industrial Park, with over 19% of the industrial lands of the city and 12% of the working population, generated 532.8 billion yuan in high-tech products, accounting for 63.32% of the city’s total. Shenzhen’s Wanyuan District generated output value of high-tech products of 65.063 billion yuan per sq. kilometer of industrial land, industrial added value of 15.545 billion yuan, tax revenue of 3.652 billion yuan and net profits of 3.524 billion yuan. The has ranked first among national high-tech industrial parks for per unit area of output. The Shenzhen High-tech Park has effectively driven the transformation of the economic growth mode of the city and has promoted the adjustment of the industrial structure and development of the regional economy.

From January to November 2009, the export value of high-tech products of Shenzhen  accounting for 51.9% of the total export value of the city. The export value of high-tech products of Shenzhen decreased by 10.1% YoY, which is 4.1% lower than the decrease in the first ten months of the year.
 
1．Electronic information
Shenzhen has now formed the electronic information industrial cluster characterized by the computers, communications and micro-electronics industries. Output value of electronic information industry accounted for 85% of the total output value of high-tech products. The output value and sales of information industry accounted for 15% of the country. The industry showed strong industrial matching advantages, which lay the foundation to attract foreign companies to make high-end products in Shenzhen. In the future, Shenzhen will focus on the development of regional clusters of advantageous industries such as PC and peripheral equipment, digital audio-visual equipment, communications equipment, micro-electronics and basic electronic elements, software, electromechanical integration equipment, apparatus and instruments. It will also encourage development of auto electronics, flat-panel displaying components, IC manufacturing, compound semiconductor and other new emerging electronic information sectors.
 

Communications equipment
Shenzhen will develop fixed-network equipment manufacturing, wireless network equipment manufacturing and data communications equipment manufacturing with emphases on products such as NGN equipment, 3G mobile communications equipment, wireless comprehensive access equipment, communications terminals and optical network equipment.
 

Digital audio-visual
It will develop digital TV and related products, digital TV content and related application software, digital audio broadcasting systems and digital household appliances.
 

Software
It will develop information security products, system software and application software. Moreover, it will construct a national software export base and a national torch plan software industrial base.

Compound semiconductor
It will encourage the introduction and industrialization of key production technologies such as epitaxial-chips, chipsets, underlay materials and high power encapsulation to form a relatively complete compound semiconductor industrial chain. Moreover, it will construct the Shenzhen National Semiconductor Lighting Engineering Industrialization Base.
 

Flat-panel display
It will develop high-end flat-panel displaying components, including TFT-LCD and PDP, and encourage R&D and industrialization of new flat-panel displaying components such as OLED and SED.
 

IC design, manufacturing and encapsulation
It will construct a high-level IC design and testing platform, introduce 8-inch or larger wafer production lines, and will construct the Shenzhen National IC Design Industrialization Base.
 

PC and peripheral equipment
It will develop products such as portable PC, imbedded PC, multimedia PC, PDA products, high-tech micro computers, work stations and servers, and encourage the development of network computers, new storage equipment, new display terminals, intelligent power supplies, printer, disc drivers, network information processing equipment and others. 

2．Bio-pharmacy

Shenzhen’s bio-tech industry leads China in terms of production technology, facilities and inspection conditions. With a large production scale and great advantages, Shenzhen has become a new highland for the development of the bio-pharmaceutical industry.

The bio-pharmaceutical industry, as a main application of bio-tech, will be an important focus of development of high-tech industry development in Shenzhen. The city will focus on the development of the medical device industry, a bio-tech industry dominated by bio-pharmacy and new genetically modified animal and plant species, and the maritime biological industry. Moreover, it will encourage the construction of a national bio-industry base.
 

Gene project
It will trace international trends in bio-tech development, introduce therapy gene project drugs, genetically modified animal and plant species and gene vaccines for disease prevention and control from foreign countries, cultivate new generation gene products, greatly promote R&D and industrialization of monoclonal antibody drugs and take a lead in the country.

It will focus on the production and development of new diagnostic agent boxes, automatic inspection instrument, medical diagnosis and screening biological chips for viral hepatitis, sexually transmitted diseases, tumors, key epidemic diseases, inherited diseases, prenatal diagnosis and environment and food inspection.

Medical instruments industry
It will strengthen the introduction, absorption and innovative abilities and try to build Shenzhen into an internationally renowned medical instrument product production and export base. It will also focus on the development of digital medical imaging devices such as nuclear magnetic resonance and B-ultrasonic image producer, PC auxiliary surgery apparatus, clinical monitoring and nursing apparatus and vital sign testing and inspecting apparatus.

The new energy and new materials industry, as one of Shenzhen’s three pillar high-tech industries, has developed rapidly. In the future, the development of Shenzhen’s new material and new energy industry will focus on silicon and polysilicon materials, high-performance cells, electronic materials, gallium nitride luminescent materials and components. It will develop solar energy, bio fuel and other renewable energies.
