The district was the earliest developed in the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, and one of the central areas of the city. It is home to the country's first stock exchange, first futures market and first local commercial bank. Now it's become the financial, commercial and trade center of Shenzhen, and the biggest gold and jewelry processing base in China, and its infrastructure is continuously improved and optimized.
Downtown Luohu is around 32 kilometers away from the Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport, which offers convenient transportation options with over 120 international and domestic routes to over 90 cities at home and abroad. In addition, the district is home to the biggest inland port in China, and the number of people transiting through Luohu Port exceeds 100 million person/times each year. The Luohu Railway Station facilitates the arrival and departure of over 100 trains each day.
The Luohu district focuses on developing a number of sectors, including modern finance, trade and commerce, gold and jewelry, and creative culture.
Local industries have accelerated upgrading with good results. The producer services sector represented by financial, specialized and commercial services has increased its share of GDP from 42% to 61.1%; and the high-end services industry lifted its share of GDP from 36.4% to 57.1%.
The Shuibei area is the biggest gold and jewelry industry cluster in China, and home to 1,350 gold and jewelry enterprises and around 20 jewelry trading centers. The Sungang area is a major distribution hub for Shenzhen's arts and crafts market, and the most mature and popular crafts procurement base in South China, with products sold to over 30 countries and regions in Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
Liantang of Luohu is home to the first internet industrial park founded in Shenzhen, accommodating 155 internet and e-commerce enterprises. Some have become the leading players in niche markets such as: onetouch.cn, ipanel.cn, New Trend International, Wisdom GPS Technology, and 518ad.com. Also, the onetouch.cn site (controlled by Alibaba), is engaged in online foreign trade and has an annual growth rate of 200%-300%.
