Shenzhen was the first city in China to establish a “city based on culture” strategy, and its creative industries have experienced tremendous growth. In 2014, Shenzhen’s culture and creative industries’ added value was 122.023 billion RMB, up 17.40% over the previous year. Shenzhen’s science/technology+ culture model can be seen everywhere. Science and technology have spread to every level of cultural products, becoming an important engine driving cultural development. Shenzhen was China’s first “City of Design” recognized by the UNESCO, and with 300,000 design professionals, it has great advantages in industrial design and interior design. Shenzhen is also the cradle of China’s modern graphic design. Shenzhen’s main industrial zones/parks for the culture and creative industries include the Shenzhen National Cartoon & Animation Industry Base, Tianmian City of Design, and the Dafen Oil Painting Village.
